Splits Challenge

Happy happy 2014 to you! I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating Tuesday night and are excited to see what this year has in store for you.

Strive Here’s first fitness challenge starts today! Have you ever wished that you could do the splits? If so, the Splits Challenge is perfect for you!

How it works:
Complete the stretches and exercises listed above to increase the flexibility in your hips and legs allowing you to bring your body closer to the ground when attempting to do the splits. Feel free to focus on improving your right and left splits, your middle split or all 3 variations. Watch the video to see a demonstration of each stretch and exercise.


  • 4 week challenge
  • January 3, 2014 – January 31, 2014
  • Set aside 10 minutes each day to complete the challenge moves.


  • Before beginning the challenge, take a before picture and measure the distance between your body and the ground so that you have something to compare to each week.
  • Take a new picture and measurement each Friday to measure progress. I will be posting a challenge update picture and/or video each Friday to share my progress.
  • Complete the exercises after your workout or warm-up before hand to ensure that your muscles are warm.
  • Perform each move for 30 seconds.
  • Make time to do the Split Challenge moves every day. If you don’t think you can participate each day, feel free to scale back to accommodate your schedule.
  • Enjoy your improvements and have fun!


  • Pick a certain time of day that you will perform the exercises. Some examples are: when watching T.V., in the morning before work, after your normal workout.
  • Each day you complete the exercises, make a mark on the calendar so you can keep track of your hard work.
  • Hold each pose for the recommended 30 seconds.
  • Listen to your body and ease up if needed.
  • Be patient and stay determined.

Below are my before split pictures. Note: Although I am able to almost touch the ground in my right and left split (I have teaching yoga to thank for this), my hips and legs are quite tight and I am looking forward to improving my flexibility allowing me to straighten my back leg while performing each move more comfortably.

    1 week into it and I have improved my right and left split by 2 inches and my middle by 3. In addition to the exercises in the main video I have added a few more including lots of frog splits.
